Driving up the highland, it is hard not to miss this stopover point as the area is usually crowded with the local and tourist-laden vehicles parked in the wide parking space. Visitors can take time to walk around browsing through the many foods and handicrafts stalls established at Pekan Nabalu.

– Kundasang town

Invalid pass in Kundasang Town but do not stop. Although not to buy various types of sales, but stop by to record the moment of being in this town which is located right at the foot of Mount Kinabalu. Against the backdrop of the peak of Mount Kinabalu and the valley at the foot of the mountain that is flooded with villages and vegetable growing areas, you will truly feel calmer when you see the beauty of the landscape around this town.

Synonymous with vegetables and fruits such as cabbage and strawberries, you can clearly see the vegetable garden cultivated by the residents here as a means of livelihood. Being located in the highlands makes it suitable for the cultivation of most cold climate vegetables and fruits.

This is the first checkpoint taken by climbers in the morning located about 4km away from the park’s office but accessible by road. Heavily fenced, an office records the entry and departure of all climbers and porters using this entrance.

– Poring Hot Spring (Take a bath -*prepare a bathing suit*)

Poring is named after a species of giant bamboo that grows abundantly in the area. It lies in the eastern boundaries and situated some 40km (25miles) from the Kinabalu Park Headquarters. Poring is about 400m above sea level and is dominated by the lowland forest with huge dipterocarp trees easily seen on the trails.

Poring is known for its hot sulphur spring bath which was first developed by the Japanese during world war II.

– Massage fish (tagal)

In the Local KadazanDusun dialect, ‘tagal’ means ‘no fishing’, and the main purpose of the ‘tagal’ is to preserve the environment as well as the ecosystem to benefit the future generation. ‘Ikan Pelian’ or Malaysian Mahseer comes from the family of Cyprinidae. These fishes are specifically trained by the villagers to perform the healing massage activities.

The fish massage is deemed to have a curative effect on those who suffers from psoriasis. Come to Kampung Luanti for regular fish massages and you will enjoy smoother and suppler skin – just like a baby’s bottom.
